The Duck Trap Wherry sparked the renewal of interest in wherries with her beautiful traditional lines and shapely transom–with good reason. The frosting on the cake is that she’s actually the easiest to build of all our wherries.
Originally designed as a fast pulling boat, the 16 is the fastest of the lot (speed in the water being a function of the square root of the waterline length). And while rowing one can be nearly effortless, if you are of a mind to, you can brace your feet and haul away to really make her take off. Who knows? This lofting is printed on a single sheet of 24# blueline paper. The advantage of that is that it can be unrolled as needed so that you aren't reguired to have a 36" x 18' set aside just for lofting. It is helpful, though to have a 4' x 6' sheet of plywood so that you can build your moulds directly from the lofting.
