Designed in 1980 by Walter Simmons, the Duck Trap Wherry sparked the renewal of interest in wherries with her beautiful traditional lines and shapely transom–with good reason. She’s an eye catcher, and the way she handles on the water is simply amazing. And the best part? She's the easiest to build of all our wherries. You might not think so to look at her, but it's true. Actually it was true when we offered the plans and the lofting. It's even more so now because this book focuses specifically on the Duck Trap Wherry. We've built a bunch of them right here at Duck Trap, from an 18' traditionally planked pulling model all the way down to the lightweight glued lap 14-footers with curved transom.
The boat photographed here, and throughout, is Osprey, which we built in 2004. Other photos include our lightweight 14 and 15 footers, and there are even some black and white shots of our very first 18-footer. Osprey, is a 16' glued lapstrake sailing model with two rowing positions. Her construction is fully documented. This is 8.5" x 11" book includes 260 photos on 180 pages and is comb bound to lay flat on your bench. This is the next best thing to being right in our shop.
This book is the perfect companion to the plans for the Duck Trap Wherry.
