- About Us
We've been in business here in Ducktrap (Maine) since January of 1972.
We're primarily boatbuilders and repairers, and have built right around 200 boats since then, though these days devote more of our time to helping others build their own boats. We still build a couple of boats a year in our shop, and offer plans for those who want to build their own. When we say that our plans come with free email and phone support, we mean it.
Can't determine the right boat for your needs? Contact us, we'll be glad to help with that too.
It's not just boats, however. Along the way we began carving decoys, and we and showcase our work along with that of 50+ other Maine carvers and artists at our seasonal gallery in Ducktrap. Of course many of those carvings are featured here online year ‘round.
The day Walter Simmons hired on at Lee's Boat Shop in Rockland, the Master Builder asked him one final question...
"You'll pass it on, won't you boy?" He promised he would, and has been doing that very thing since that day in 1969.
He and Karen, his wife of 50 years, own and run this company.
On the map you'll find us on the shore of Penobscot Bay about midway between Portland and Mt. Desert Island
...and in case you wondered, our company name derives from the original name for this town.
Today, Ducktrap Village is situated within the Town of Lincolnville.
Stop by and say hello.
[For the curious, there's a portion of an 1898 coastal chart showing Duck Trap in the description of Wherries.]
