Here along the Maine Coast eiders are easily spotted. Impressive sea ducks, they can be seen in rafts of as many as a thousand birds close along shore or near half-tide ledges where they feed. Off Otter Cliffs in Acadia National Park they swim just outside the crashing surf. On the other side of Mt. Desert Island, they are a familiar sight in Seawall, on the road that runs from Southwest Harbor over to Bass harbor.
Large ducks, and strong fliers, they often fly close together and in pairs very much like these hand carved miniatures. Evocative of this coast we call home and where millions vacation yearly, these make a handsome decoration for your home or office.
Where they are all hand made, pieces differ slightly. This particular pair is mounted on a mahogany base that is about 8" x 10", and the wingspan of the eiders is approximately 9".
