Once in a great while you can come up with a pattern you like the very first time, but frankly, chances are not in your favor. We’ve been there. We developed our patterns over the years and offer them so that you can get started right away rather than having to go through the process of developing your own. Decoys made from these patterns work, in the field and in competition. They are printed on 24# blueline paper.
For those who speak PC, these are now "Long-tailed Ducks." That would describe Northern Pintails as well, but apparently that's not a concern. You nearly always hear these ducks before you see them because the females of the species talk A LOT. Suppose that's...never mind. These are really full bodied decoys with a great deal of contouring, the way we make them, and the end result can be quite striking.
The decoy at the top of this page is the very same Oldsquaw drake that's on the cover of Basic Decoy Carving.
